There's nothing like babies

There's nothing like brothers, either. My kids are by far some of my favorite photo subjects (isn't that true of all of us?). This is a little something I put together to announce the birth of our third son.

The Waiting is the Hardest Part

Weddings are about far, far more than the ceremony itself. My approach to wedding photography lies deeply rooted in my photojournalism training. Storytelling is the goal. That being said, many of the best wedding photographs come from behind the scenes. Anyone who has taken part in a wedding knows they involve waiting. Lots and lots of waiting. What people do during that downtime says a lot about them, and makes for great pictures.

For example, last August Lt. Nicholas Chandler, a Ranger in the 82nd Airborne, married his high school sweetheart after returning home from Iraq. The two tied the knot on St. Simon's Island in Georgia. Physical activity, say racing his brother in the Atlantic as the time rolled in, seemed a good morning-of-the-wedding activity for the soldier. Just before the ceremony, however, one could see the soldier face wear away and excited nerves take over.

The Cannells (holiday photos)

A trip to the Merry Christmas Tree farm in Central, S.C. recently yielded some nice photos for the Cannell family. I simply followed them around the farm as they hunted for their Christmas tree.

The Brandenburgs

I recently shot photos in the home of the Brandenburgs, a nice young family who is celebrating the first birthday of their daughter, Tessa. The shoot included some portraits of Tessa, and also some family holiday shots. Tessa was a fun subject, even if we did have to keep wiping graham cracker crumbs from her chin :) One of my favorite photos that came out of the shoot was this mother and daughter photo. The dress was purchased by a relative of theirs who is in the armed forces and stationed overseas. I also enjoyed the photo of Tessa eating her shoe. Sometimes those "real" moments make much better photos than canned smiles.

Seasonal portraits

Posted by Picasa
I recently shot the above photo in Clemson, taking advantage of the rich fall colors and waning afternoon sun.
